Joining the prolific thrash metal band, Anthrax, at the mere age of 19, Frank Bello has rocked the metal stage ever since. Originally acting as roadie and guitar technician for the band, the bassist very soon replaced Dan Lilker in the line up soon after their 1984 debut album release entitled Fistful of Metal.
Apart from a one year stint with New York City metal band, Helmet, in 2004, Frank has played bass with Anthrax since his first joining. The band is a leader in the thrash metal scene since the 80’s, and one of the “Big Four” of the genre along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. Frank has said to be inspired and influenced by other stars such as Gene Simmons, Stever Harris and Geezer Butler, among others. Apart from his legendary music career, Frank has also appeared on both the big and silver screen. He played Richard Hell in Greetings from Tim Buckley, alongside Hollywood stars Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots. The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. He has also appeared in Law & Order episode “The Brotherhood”, as well as playing himself in a Married… with Children episode.
In May of this year Frank announced the upcoming release of his autobiography, Father, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, and Anthrax. The publication has been co-written alongside English author Joel McIver, and includes a written foreword by Gene Simmons himself. With a love for giving back all he has to the community, Frank is a big supporter of the nonprofit Little Kids Rock. The organisation works tirelessly to restore musical education to underprivileged public schools in the US. The trash metal bassist has donated a multitude of basses and amps to 15 New York City schools, as well as visiting classrooms to inspire, talk to, and jam with students.
