George Anthony Hincapie is a widely renowned former American cycle road racer and businessman – his name is well known in the cycling industry. He has the nickname ‘Big George’ as he is 6 ft 3 inches tall. He was born in Queens, New York in 1973 and studied at Farmingdale High School, Long Island.
As a child he did his first cycle training in New York’s Central Park and from a young age he has raced; winning 10 junior national titles and two world medals.
Hincapie competed as a professional cyclist between 1994 and 2012. He raced 17 times in the Tour De France and won 17 Ronde van Vlaanderen races and came second in the Paris-Roubaix. He won 3 National Road Race championships. He rode also at the Olympic games and rode as a domestique of top cyclists such as Lance Armstrong working to support his team.
Some of the teams he has been involved with are Motorola, US Postal Service, Team High Road and BMC Racing Team.
In 2012 Hincapie retired from professional riding. With his brother Richard he produced a range of sportswear called Hincapie Sports. He developed a team Hincapie-Leomo p/b BMC focused on road bicycle racing.
