Georgios Achilleos is a Cypriot sport shooter, World titlist, and World No. 1 in Skeet, known for his multiple Olympic appearances and numerous international medals. After securing a gold medal in the Junior’s event at the 1999 World Championship in Tampere, Finland, Georgios Achilleos rapidly established himself as a formidable talent in sport shooting. His international career began two years prior, marking his debut at the 1997 European Championships in Sipoo, Finland, where he placed ninth.
In 2005, he equaled the World Record in Skeet shooting with a score of 124/125 in Dubai. The following year, he achieved dual gold medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne for both the Skeet individual and pairs events. 2007 proved to be another landmark year, as Achilleos secured a gold medal at the World Championship in Nicosia for both Skeet Men and Skeet Team, and a further gold medal at the World Cup Final for Skeet Men in Belgrade. His career highlight at the Olympic Games came at Beijing 2008, where he achieved his highest Olympic placement of fifth, once again bearing the national flag for Cyprus.
His distinguished record includes numerous medals across World Championships, World Cups, European Championships, Commonwealth Games, Mediterranean Games, and European Games. Achilleos further showcased his consistent performance by making his fifth Olympic appearance at the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics, where he placed ninth.
