Giles Matthey is a British actor best known for his roles in HBO’s Golden Globe-winning series True Blood and ABC’s seven-time Emmy-nominated show Once Upon a Time.
Australian-born Matthey made a move from London to New York to pursue a career in acting after developing an interest in the industry in his teens; in the US, he studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, completing a conservatory program over two years.
Upon graduating, Matthey was cast in CBS’s long-running political drama series The Good Wife. On the Golden Globe-winning show, he portrayed Dick Anders, a man who attempts to cover up his friend’s crime, appearing alongside Matt Czuchry. This appearance was quickly followed by several roles in high-profile productions, including as Jonathan Ive, Apple design chief, in 2013’s biopic Jobs, sharing a screen with Ashton Kutcher. Matthey’s big break came when he was cast in HBO’s long-running fantasy show True Blood, playing Claude Crane.
In 2017, Matthey landed his most recognisable role to date, appearing in the penultimate and final series’ of the long-running fantasy show Once Upon a Time as Gideon. Additional television credits include Jordan Reed in 24: Live Another Day, Daniel Budd in NCIS, and Caleb Montgomery in Strike Back. Movie credits include Carter in Hunter, Eddie in Boulevard, Todd in Submerged, John in The Duel, Brian in 1BR, Lance Reventlow in ‘66, Dave in Ambition and Daniel in Amantes, a short.
Despite having spent a relatively short time in industry, Matthey has developed an enviable and diverse portfolio, appearing in some of the twenty-first century’s most popular television shows. With his star steadily on the rise, Matthey has an exciting career ahead of him.
