One of the world’s top big mountain skiers, Ian McIntosh is the star of numerous major ski films. His 2006 debut in Teton Gravity Research (TGR) movie Anomaly earned McIntosh Powder’s Breakthrough Performance award, and his photos have appeared in almost every ski magazine around the globe. Also recognisable from his numerous crazy lines on YouTube and from The Freeride World Tour, he gained further notoriety in 2015 (and nearly broke the internet) after a 1,600 foot crash in Alaska, with the likes of Fox Sports 1 and Good Morning America all clamouring to interview the six-foot-two red-haired ski sensation.
McIntosh grew up in a ski mad family in Canada’s Kootenays in British Colombia, and he became immersed in the race scene from a young age. Always drawn to the powder, he broke into the ski scene in New Zealand after entering the World Heli Challenge, and also bumped into fellow Canadian Pierre Yves LeBlanc who encouraged McIntosh to try a season in Whistler, Canada. In 2004 he began to enter Big Mountain competitions and clinched second place at Verbier Xtreme, gaining the attention of TGR who offered McIntosh the opening segment in his first film Anomaly. The rest is history, and he has since appeared in countless ground breaking movies racking up nominations and awards including the 2017 Powder Magazine award for Best Line.
Always chasing adventure, the ski sensation also took up BASE jumping several years ago, and MacIntosh has since racked up over 100 jumps and earned himself lucrative commercial work with the likes of Alfa Romeo and Nissan.
