David Sotomayor, a drag queen, dancer, model, and makeup artist from Chicago, Illinois, goes by the stage name Jade Sotomayor. Jade competed in Season 1 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and placed sixth. She was chosen as one of nine contestants to compete for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar.” Jade is a true entertainer who is also transparent and passionate about her drag career, which she describes as a true art form. Her family has been really supportive of her and has supported her doing drag as long as it makes her happy and keeps her safe. She defined herself as “talented, professional, and passionate” in her “Drag Race” introductory video.
Jade was eliminated on the fourth episode of “Drag Race,” in which the queens were required to create a commercial for MAC Cosmetics, a makeup company that supports HIV/AIDS research. Jade refers to herself as the “#originalfish” since she was the show’s first “fishy queen.” Jade made several firsts on the show, including being the first queen to have her drag name developed and refined on the show, becoming the first Latina queen to appear on the show, and performing a split during her lone lipsync.
