Though given a slow start with several challenges, professional North Irish footballer Jamie Ward has shown an ability to deliver exceptional performances to teammates and fans time and time again. Currently on loan to Charlton Athletic from Nottingham Forest, Ward has already racked up roughly four-hundred appearances and close to a hundred goals in his fourteen-year career, and this statistic excludes his appearances for North Ireland’s under-18, under-21, and primary national teams where he has earned the country forty-four caps
and scored six goals. Since his professional debut at age 19 with Aston Villa, where he held the position of captain, he has played for Stockport County, Torquay United, Chesterfield, Sheffield United, Derby County, and Cardiff City among others. The striker and winger has caught the attention of clubs due to his form on multiple occasions, and had competing offers within three years of his first official contract.
Though he was born in England, Ward was able to qualify for North Ireland’s national team through his grandfather. He played twice for the under-18 team and seven times for the under-21 team before he was brought back and asked to play with the primary national team. Currently, fans are awaiting his return to Nottingham and keeping an eye out for whether another loan or transfer is on the way. Whatever happens, Ward is sure to keep his supporters watching closely.
