About

Jazmine Rogers, a 2018 alumna of Point Loma Nazarene University, embarked on her journey in the fashion industry with an initial interest in fashion merchandising. During her time in college, around 2015, she developed an awareness of the negative impacts of consumerism on the environment and the ethical concerns within the fashion industry. This led her to pivot her career aspirations towards integrating sustainability with fashion, initially exploring this intersection through a fashion blog where she documented her learning and shared insights. Her early habits, rooted in growing up in a low-income household, included thrifting and mending clothes, which she later recognized as inherently sustainable practices.

Rogers gained significant public attention in the summer of 2020. During this period, amidst the Black Lives Matter movement and the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a drive to highlight Black-owned businesses and creators. As a Black and Mexican content creator, Rogers’ voice resonated with a wider audience, leading to a substantial increase in her followers, growing from approximately 5,000 to over 34,000 on Instagram by November 2020. She founded Sustainable Baddie, a platform that serves as a blog, guide, and community hub for sustainable living, operating with an editorial team. In 2022, Rogers relocated from San Diego to Brooklyn, New York, a move that aligned with her energetic personality and provided new opportunities in the fashion landscape.

Through her online presence as @thatcurlytop on Instagram, which now boasts over 100K followers, and her work with Sustainable Baddie, Rogers promotes an approach to fashion that is playful, fun, imperfect, and accessible. She aims to inspire hope and joy within the sustainability space, focusing on actionable solutions rather than ‘doom and gloom.’ Her content emphasizes personal style, re-wearing clothes, mending items, and making intentional purchasing decisions. Rogers also actively engages in brand partnerships to fund her activism and influence industry leaders, often integrating consultancy services into her contracts. She has been recognized on the Grist 50 list in 2023 for her contributions as a climate leader and continues to expand Sustainable Baddie with merchandise and events.
