Jeeca Uy

Jeeca Uy, born between 1997 and 1998 in the Philippines as Jessica Uy, is a Filipina vegan cookbook author and blogger known for “The Foodie Takes Flight.” Her journey into vegan cooking began in 2015, after graduating from high school and watching the film ‘Earthlings.’ This experience prompted her to adopt a vegan lifestyle. Initially facing challenges in veganizing traditional Filipino dishes, she developed her skills to adapt beloved recipes, documenting her progress on social media platforms. Uy later earned a degree in Visual Communications from the University of the Philippines Diliman, applying this expertise to her growing online presence.

Uy’s career as a food content creator and recipe developer focuses on making easy, flavorful vegan recipes, particularly those inspired by Asian cuisine and her Filipino-Chinese heritage. Her work gained significant recognition with the publication of her first cookbook, “Vegan Asian: A Cookbook: The Best Dishes from Thailand, Japan, China and More Made Simple.” This book was published by Page Street in 2021 and quickly garnered critical acclaim. PETA included it in their list of “Vegan Cookbooks That Will Help Make 2021 Way Better Than Last Year.”

In 2022, Prevention magazine named “Vegan Asian” one of the “10 Best Vegan Cookbooks for Dabbling in Plant-Based Cooking.” Further solidifying her influence, VegNews listed it among the “Top 100 Vegan Cookbooks of All Time” in 2024. In 2023, Gotham magazine recognized Uy as one of the “9 Best Vegan Food Influencers To Follow.” Her contributions to promoting plant-based culinary heritage in Asia were also celebrated with the 2023 Gen.T (Philippines) Award from Tatler Asia, highlighting her impact in the culinary world.
