Jeffrey DeMunn is a Primetime Emmy-nominated actor with a distinguished career on stage and screen. He is perhaps best known for roles such as Dale Horvath in The Walking Dead, Chuck Rhoades Sr. in Billions, the prosecutor in The Shawshank Redemption, Henry Terwilliger in The Green Mile, Professor John Ringold in Phenomenon, and many more. His Primetime Emmy nomination came in 1995 for his chilling portrayal of Soviet serial killer Andrei Chikatilo in the TV film Citizen X. His ongoing role as Chuck Rhoades in the multi-award-nominated series Billions shows that more than half a century into his career, he is still breaking new ground.
Born in New York in 1947, DeMunn moved to the UK in his early twenties to train at the famous Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol. On his return to the States, he toured with notable productions of Shakespeare classics such as King Lear and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 1978, he won a Drama Desk Award for his part in Thomas Babe’s A Prayer for my Daughter.
DeMunn made his television debut in 1978 and his film debut two years later. In film, he enjoyed particular success working for director Frank Darabont, who cast DeMunn in many of his classic films, from Shawshank and The Green Mile to The Blob (a cult classic that Darabont co-wrote) and The Majestic. On television, he mainly played guest roles before taking a recurring role in Law & Order. Throughout the years, however, he has established himself on the small screen with roles in award-winning shows such as The Walking Dead.
