The wonderfully entertaining and witty Jerry “The King” Lawler is a professional wrestler, WWE Hall of Famer, and commentator. He is one of the most popular voices in the professional wrestling world, and one of their most decorated champions. Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Lawler was actually working as a disc jockey when a local wrestling promoter, who was impressed by Lawler’s artistic ability, made a deal for free publicity in return for free wrestling training. Lawler made his wrestling debut in 1970, and won his first championship a year later. Since then he has won a total of 168 championships, a feat that no other wrestler has come close to matching. He rose to stardom between 1972 and 1992, and then joined the WWF. He went on to become one of the most legendary figures in all of wrestling, and has served as a wrestler and a commentator for over 20 years. His contributions to the sport and entertainment industry were recognised when he was induction into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 1996, and into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
