21 year old luger Jessica Tiebel already has a hugely successful career behind her, having won numerous titles on the junior circuit.
Tiebel started tobogganing aged seven, and began to train and compete soon after. She attended an elite sports school near her home in Altenberg and in 2013 entered the Junior World Cup for the first time. She came second in the event, and made her European Championships debut a year later. For the following three seasons she was named Junior World Cup Champion and went on to win the European Junior Championship title three times too. This remarkable talent was named Junior Athlete of the Year in 2015 by Deutsche Sporthilfe and in 2016 she was selected as part of the German team at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. Once again Tiebel put in a great performance taking home both a gold and a silver medal.
Over the next few years she continued to cement her reputation as one of the most promising athletes on the German side and in 2017/2018 she made it onto the Women’s World Cup team. 2019/2020 saw her make the team again, but soon after she announced that she would take a break from the sport to focus on her studies. Tiebel will now work towards her physics degree at the University of Dresden, as well as sharing her inspiring story with others.
