German football manager and former player Joachim Low is currently at the helm of his national side, after a successful career in the Bundesliga.
After growing up playing amateur football, Low joined 2 Bundesliga club SC Freiburg and worked his way up through the ranks. He eventually made it into Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, before brief stints at Karlsruher FC and Swiss team FC Winterthur. He started coaching while he was still a player, and worked as an assistant at both Winterthur and FC Frauenfeld before retiring from the game to focus on coaching. Low went on to have a prolific management career, working all over the world at Bundesliga clubs in Germany, Turkish side Fenerbahce, and Austrian teams Tirol Innsbruck and Austria Wien. By now Low had built up a reputation as a strong leader, and he was appointed as assistant manager of the German national side in 2004. He has been with the team ever since, progressing to manager in 2006 and leading the team to victory at the 2014 World Cup. Low once again showed his tactical prowess, heading up Germany’s victory in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup where they won the title for the first time.
Widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world, Low continues to live up to his reputation as the head of the German team. He looks set for many more successful years on the sidelines.
