The fabulous John Barclay is a rugby pundit and former professional rugby union player, who turned out for the Glasgow Warriors, the Scarlets, and Edinburgh Rugby. He also made 76 international appearances for his native Scotland between 2007 and 2019, representing them at three Rugby World Cups.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Barclay started playing mini rugby during his early school years. He later continued his schooling in Scotland where he captained the rugby team. He joined the Glasgow Warriors in 2004 as an apprentice when he was 18, and a year previously he had been invited to train with the Scotland squad. His domestic career saw him remain with the Warriors until 2013, and then he joined the Welsh side the Scarlets. He played for them until 2018 and then returned to Scotland with the Edinburgh Rugby, playing with them until he retired from the game in 2020.
On the international stage Barclay made his Scotland debut at the 2007 Rugby World Cup. He went on to represent his nation until his retirement from international rugby, after winning 76 caps and playing in three Rugby World Cups. He then began forging a new career in the media as a rugby pundit.
