Footballer Johnathan Abram is known for bringing passion, energy and love for the game. An instinctive, hard-hitting safety who has a real nose for the football, Abram was touted as the No 1 safety in the 2019 NHL Draft and currently plays in the NFL for the Las Vegas Raiders. Well-loved by his team mates and with an ability to diagnose both run and trick plays, during an increasingly impressive 2021 season he made 116 total tackles and played some excellent games, making key stops against the Browns before suffering a dislocated shoulder.
Born in Columbia, Mississippi, Abram played high school football for the East Mario Eagles whilst attending East Marion High School. After originally committing to play college football at Georgia, he moved on the play for Mississippi State for his final two years of college eligibility and led the team with 93 tackles following his senior year. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan invited Abram to the 2019 Senior Bowl and the media named him to the first team All-SEC .
Abram was drafted in the first round, 27th overall by the Oakland Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut against the Denver Broncos in week 1 and despite making an impact in the game and helping his team to victory he injured his rotator cuff and was out for the rest of the season. Known for his toughness, he returned in 2020 and in 2021 entered the season as the Raiders starting strong safety. Although his season ended with a shoulder injury he finished second on the team with a career-high 116 tackles. Having fought back from injury before and with an incredibly strong work ethic, football fans are looking forward to seeing Abram back on the field where he belongs.
