The great academic Jürgen Möller is a military historian, who specialises on the period during the end of World War II in his native Germany. He is also a former officer in the National People’s Army and the Bundeswehr. In 2006 he was awarded the Silver Merit of the National Association of Bavaria for services of work to the German War Graves Commission, and in 2007 he was presented with the Middle German Historian Award.
Born and raised in Gotha, Germany, Möller joined the military after his schooling and became an officer, firstly in the National People’s Army and then in the Bundeswehr. He also held a deep fascination for his country’s history, particularly during World War II, and began to research his interest during his free time, publishing articles on his subject between 2003 and 2007. Since 2010 he has published his research results on the American occupation of Central Germany in the context of the documentary series The End of the War in Central Germany 1945. He retired from the military in 2014, and now regularly presents his findings on the history of Central Germany in lectures and as a consultant for TV productions.
