Inspiring Karen Maurice made a radical life change when she went from being a fast-fashion buyer for one of the UK’s leading high-street retailers to becoming a sustainable fashion blogger known as the N4 Mummy (a name based on her London postcode). Now living in Bristol and the mum of three children, she has built a massive audience for her website and an organic Instagram following of more than 17,000 souls, all of whom are also keen to reposition their lives away from consumerism and towards a more natural, sustainable way of living.
Maurice’s lifelong passion for fashion saw her work her way up the corporate ladder, working as a buyer for Jane Norman and New Look, ultimately travelling the world as the latter’s knitwear buyer. However, as time progressed, she began to feel uncomfortable with the business practices she witnessed and the unsustainable nature of her industry. Slowly, she began to buy fewer new clothes for her and her children — and those she did buy were from ethical stores. This led to her reusing and recycling more in other areas of her life, and so the N4 Mummy blog was born as a way to share her journey and inspire others.
She may no longer live in N4, but Maurice continues to maintain her blog and Instagram account, promoting everything from sustainable underwear to vegan clothing to organic food.
