German professional beach volleyball player Karla Borger is a FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League player and a 2016 Summer Olympic Games athlete. Making her debut in the 2008 season during the Junior World Championship tournament in Brighton, Borger takes after her mother Cordula Pütter who is well known for her back-to-back German Vice Champion titles and participation in the 1993 Rio de Janeiro World Tour.
Borger began her career with Britta Büthe competing in many Grand Slams, Challenger tournaments, World Championships, Masters, and Satellite tournaments. During their eight-year partnership, Borger became Vice World Champion in 2013 and won a silver medal at the World Championships that same year. In 2014, she was named Women’s FIVB World Tour “Best Server” and became Vice World Champion for a second year in a row. She briefly played with Rieke Brink-Abeler and Margareta Kozuch before sticking with Julia Sude.
The two, under the direction of Sude’s father the legendary Dr. Burkhard Sude, claimed the 2019 World Tour victory at the Moscow tournament followed by another victory during the 3-star tournament in Qinzhou later that year. Borger and Sude qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan and were nominated as athletes of the year in Düsseldorf. Borger is sponsored by Adidas, Redbull, Robinson, Hempions, Ecoterra Sport, Bundeswehr, and other companies.
