Karla Borger is a prominent German beach volleyball player whose career has been marked by numerous achievements and a commitment to excellence in the sport. She began her professional journey in indoor volleyball, playing for various clubs in the Bundesliga before transitioning to beach volleyball. Her early success included a fifth-place finish at the 2008 Junior World Championships and winning the Student World Championship in 2010 alongside her then-partner Britta Büthe. This partnership blossomed into a formidable duo, culminating in a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships, where they made history as the first European women to reach the finals.
In 2014, Borger and Büthe secured their first German Championship title, showcasing their dominance in national competitions. Their Olympic journey began in 2016 at the Rio de Janeiro Games, where they competed fiercely but were eliminated in the round of 16. Following Büthe’s retirement, Borger formed a new partnership with Margareta Kozuch, achieving notable success, including a third-place finish at the 2018 World Tour and a bronze medal at the 2021 European Championships.
Borger’s career continued to flourish as she teamed up with Julia Sude from 2019 to 2022, winning the German Championship again in 2021 and achieving significant placements on the FIVB World Tour. Her resilience and adaptability have been evident as she navigated partnerships and competition, consistently ranking among the top players in Germany and internationally.
Currently, Borger is partnered with Sandra Ittlinger, and together they are making strides on the World Pro Tour.
