The fabulous, record-breaking athlete Kendra Harrison is a hurdler, who competes in the 60 metres and 100 metres events. She is famous for setting the world record in 2016 for the women’s 100 metre hurdles with a time of 12.20s, breaking the world record made 28 years earlier of 12.21s by the Bulgarian Yordanka Donkova. She is an Olympic Silver medalist, as well as a 2x World Championships Silver medalist. She holds Gold medals for the 60m hurdles at the World Indoor Championships, and for the 100m hurdles at the NACAC Championships.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Harrison grew up with a love for sports being proficient at football, as well as track and field. She then took up the hurdles and started winning State championships. She continued her athletics success at Clemson University and then at the University of Kentucky. She won the NCAA Women’s Division 1 Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2015 (in 60m and 100m hurdles), and turned professional after graduating.
Harrison continued to win indoor and outdoor hurdling events, going on to break the 100m world record on July 22, 2016 at the London Müller Anniversary Games. She claimed her first Gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in 2018 in 60m hurdles, quickly followed by her second at the NACAC Championships in 100m hurdles. After winning Silver for the United States at the 2019 World Championships in 100m hurdles, she qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games and again went on to win Silver in the 100m hurdles. She picked up her second 100m hurdles World Championships Silver in 2022.
