The fabulous, award-winning creative Kenneth Lonergan is a writer and director best known for the movies Analyze This, and You Can Count On Me. He is also the co-writer of Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York, and penned the BBC mini-series Howards End, as well as the successful plays This Is Our Youth, Lobby Hero, and The Waverly Gallery. In 2017 he won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Manchester by the Sea.
Born and raised in The Bronx, Lonergan began writing during his High School years, and his first play was chosen for the Young Playwright’s Festival in 1982. He attended the Wesleyan University to study as a playwright and director, and later graduated from the New York University Playwriting Program. He then worked as a speechwriter, and wrote commercials, and his first stage success came in 1996 with his play This Is Our Youth, which was revived in 2014 for Broadway.
Lonergan’s film career began with his screenplay for the Robert De Niro comedy Analyze This in 1999. Since then he has gone on to write a number of screenplays, including The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Gangs of New York. He made his directorial debut in 2000 with his drama screenplay You Can Count On Me. He also wrote and directed Margaret, and Manchester by the Sea, for which his screenplay picked up an Academy Award.
