Kevin Weekes is a former professional ice hockey player, who now spends his retirement as a studio analyst. After playing in goal for almost three hundred and fifty games across several teams, he now uses his expertise to talk about hockey on air for NHL Tonight.
Weekes began working toward his professional career as a youth, playing for a minor ice hockey team as a young boy to hone his skills. He then made it onto his first professional team when he joined the Ontatio Hockey League with the Owen Sound Platers. Then, in 1993, he was chosen by the Florida Panthers and he entered the NHL, making his debut for the team in 1997.
Though Weekes had a great career with a number of teams, he was forced to retire from the sport in 2009 when he sustained several injuries. However, he remained dedicated to the sport, wanting to offer his expertise to broadcasting stations. He became the first ever black hockey analyst in 2009 when he began working for the NHL network. He also hosts Hockey Night in Canada. His broadcasting career has been long and illustrious, and in 2011, he earned himself a spot in the top forty of influential people in hockey.
Now, Weekes continues to entertain the masses with his regular broadcasts. He also entertains over a hundred and sixty Twitter followers and a further thirty thousand Instagram followers, sharing details of his career and hockey news via his social media.
