Khamica Bingham is a sprinter from Canada who specialises in the 100 metres. She has competed in the Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Athletics Championships for Canada. At Rio 2016, Bingham made her Olympic debut, anchoring Canada’s 4x100m relay team to a sixth-place finish in Canada’s first Olympic final in the event since Los Angeles 1984. She narrowly missed qualifying for the 100m semifinals by one spot.
Bingham had a fantastic 2015 season. She was part of the 4x100m relay team that set a new national record at the 2015 IAAF World Relays, finishing fourth and qualifying Canada for Rio 2016. She went on to win bronze in the 4x100m relay at the Pan American Games in Toronto, where she also finished sixth in the 100m with a lifetime best time of 11.13 seconds. She was the anchor for the 4x100m relay team that finished sixth at the IAAF World Championships in 42.60 seconds, a national record.
Coming back from a terrible stomach bug at the height of her season, Bingham was the only Canadian, male or female, to qualify for a 100m final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. At the 2014 CIS Championships, she won three gold medals, including the 60m in meet record time, the 300m, and the 4x200m relay. Bingham finished fourth in the 100m at the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships, just 0.01 seconds off the podium. This was only one year after finishing fifth at the IAAF World Youth Championships. Bingham is also the co-founder of Meet My Melanin, a brand dedicated to speaking to students about racial inclusion and motivating them to be innovative and compassionate leaders.
