Kim Katrin is an award-winning Canadian writer, activist, artist and educator recognised by The Root magazine as a Young Black Feminist to Watch. She is in high demand as a keynote speaker and panellist, and has spoken to thousands of educators, students and community members throughout the US and Canada at institutions such as Princeton, Dartmouth. She was chosen to deliver the keynote address at Morehouse & Spelman’s first Pride event, and lit up the panel at Amber Rose’s first Slutwalk. Katrim features regularly in the media, contributing to Buzzfeed, the CBC, Larry King Now, MTV, Cosmopolitan, The Huffington Post, NBC and Bustle, and featured with her daughter Soleil in GAP’s 2019 Pride Campaign. Katrin was previously senior editor of a website dedicated to tattooed women of colour, Sista Ink.
Born in Trinidad and formerly known as Kim Crosby, Katrin moved to Canada at a young age completing her artist residency at the AnitAfrika Theatre under dub poet and activist d’bi Young. As a multidisciplinary artist, she has worked and performed on productions, cabaret events and exhibitions across Canada and also co-curated and produced the Cabaret Insatiable Sisters with Gein Wong for Buddies In Bad theatre company. She is the creator of over seventy workshops focussing on race, gender, the empowerment of young women, social change and anti-oppression.
Katrin is the executive director and co-founder of the movement of queer and trans folks of colour and allies The People Project, which commits to empowering both individuals and communities through art activism, collaboration and alternative education. Katrin was invited to talk part in MTV’s “Look Different” campaign along with husband Tiq Milan.
