Koen Metsemakers

Koen Metsemakers is a Dutch Olympic gold medalist rower in the men’s quadruple sculls, known for his consistent high performance in international rowing competitions. After making his Dutch representative debut in 2016 at World Rowing Cup III in a double-scull, Koen Metsemakers quickly established himself as a dominant force in international rowing. The following year, he secured a pivotal seat in the Dutch quad-scull, participating in three World Rowing Cups, the European Championships, and the 2017 World Rowing Championships in Sarasota, Florida, where his team achieved a commendable fourth-place finish. He continued to compete fiercely in the quad-scull throughout 2018, participating in additional World Rowing Cups and the 2018 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv.

Metsemakers’ decorated career saw further triumphs leading up to the delayed Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2021, he earned a second-place finish at the European Championships and a gold medal at World Rowing Cup II before achieving the pinnacle of his sport: an Olympic Gold Medal in the men’s quadruple sculls at the Tokyo 2020 Games. In 2022, demonstrating versatility, he competed in men’s double sculls, securing a bronze medal at World Rowing Cup II. His sustained high performance continued into 2023, where he secured a silver medal at the European Rowing Championships.

He then went on to win gold at World Rowing Cup III and clinched another World Rowing Championships gold medal, solidifying his status at the forefront of the sport. Most recently, Koen Metsemakers earned his second Olympic Gold Medal in the men’s quadruple sculls at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, cementing his legacy as a prominent figure and a consistent high-achiever in international rowing.
