Kyle Rico Mayers was born on September 8, 1992, in Bridgetown, Barbados. He is the son of Shirley Clarke, also a first-class cricketer. Mayers was part of the West Indies under-19 squad for the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. His early career saw him playing for various domestic teams, including Combined Campuses and Colleges (2011/12–2014/15), Barbados (2012/13, 2019/20), Barbados Tridents (2013-2014, 2017-2020), St Lucia Zouks (2015–2017), and Windward Islands (2015/16-2018/19). In October 2019, he was selected to play for Barbados in the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament. He achieved his maiden century in first-class cricket in January 2020 during the 2019–20 West Indies Championship. Mayers later represented the Paramveer Tigers in the US Open in November 2019.
Mayers’ international career began with his inclusion in West Indies’ Test squad as a reserve player for the series against England in June 2020. He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for the West Indies against New Zealand on November 29, 2020. In December 2020, he was named in the West Indies’ Test and One Day International (ODI) squads for the series against Bangladesh. His ODI debut came on January 20, 2021, against Bangladesh, followed by his Test debut on February 3, 2021, also against Bangladesh. On his Test debut, Mayers scored 210 not out, becoming the 14th West Indies batsman to score a century on debut and the sixth to achieve a double century on debut, leading the West Indies to a successful chase of 395 runs. In May 2021, he received a red-ball central contract from Cricket West Indies.
In February 2022, Mayers was acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants for the 2022 Indian Premier League. On March 27, 2022, he achieved his first Test match five-wicket haul against England, taking five for eighteen. He scored his first ODI century (120 runs) on June 4, 2022, against the Netherlands, and another ODI century (105 runs) against New Zealand. Mayers made his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants on April 1, 2023, scoring 73 runs off 38 balls against Delhi Capitals. He continues to play for various franchise teams such as Fortune Barishal (2024–present), St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (2024), and Islamabad United (2025).
