Larry Thomas is an iconic and celebrated American actor, best known for his role of Yev Kassem on the renowned sitcom Seinfeld. His character was also known as the ‘Soup Nazi’ and Thomas’ acting work here garnered him legions of fans and cemented his role in pop culture history. The success of Seinfeld shot many of its cast to stardom, and was a pioneer of its genre. Thomas was nominated for an Emmy for his guest role.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he had worked a variety of odd jobs whilst attending acting auditions. He attracted the attention of a Seinfeld casting agent, who set him up with an audition. He landed the role, which he won after impressing the directors with his talent for improvisation and impeccable comic timing, as well as the outfit which would become his character’s signature, a full military uniform. He has continued to make public appearances as this character, most recently appearing at a wedding.
Since Seinfeld, he has played several roles, often with a satirical edge to them. He took part in a partnership with Bookstick Films, appearing in comedies Spaced Out, Not Another B Movie and the award-winning spoof Paranormal Calamity. He also played a parody of Saddam Hussein in Arrested Development and then Osama bin Laden in the comedy film Postal. Most recently, he has written and is starring in the sitcom Dads, which is currently in post-production.
