The impressive young sportsman Lasha Bekauri is a judoka, who competes in the -90kg weight category. He is an Olympic Champion, a European Champion, a World Masters Champion, a IJF Grand Slam Champion, and a World Championships medalist.
Born and raised in Georgia, Bekauri started judo at a young age, and began competing at cadet and junior level. He was 17-years-old when he won both the 2017 World Cadets and the 2017 European Cadet Championships, taking Gold in the -73kg weight category. The following year he moved up to the -90kg weight class and took Gold at the World Juniors Championships. He repeated the feat in 2019, as well as taking Gold at the European Junior Championships.
Bekauri moved into senior level competition at the end of 2019 and quickly proved that he was just as formidable there as he was in the juniors, taking Gold at the World Masters. In 2021 he continued to shine, taking Bronze at the World Masters, then Gold at the IJF Grand Slam in Tel Aviv, as well as Gold at the European Championships in Lisbon. He also represented his native Georgia at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics, going on to take Gold. In 2022 he took Bronze at the World Championships, as well as at the IJF Grand Slam in Tokyo.
