Vandervoort made her debut as an actress at a young age, starring in children’s television shows Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? when she was just 13 years old. This led to a string of guest roles as a young actress, including in Mutant X, Twice in a Lifetime, The Dresden Files and Disney Channel film Alley Cats Strike. Her first major role as an adult was in CTV teen drama programme Instant Star, which she appeared in as a main character for the whole four season run. Soon after, Vandervoort landed her first part in a film in crime drama The Lookout, and roles in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and superhero spin off Smallville quickly followed.
