Laurenne Ross is an American World Cup alpine ski racer who specialises in the super G and downhill speed events. Now a regular competitor on the World Cup alpine circuit, Ross has raced in two Olympic Winter Games – Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 – and 6 World Championships. Her glittering career has already seen her achieve 26 top-ten World Cup results including two World Cup podiums.
Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta in Canada, Ross is the daughter of a former alpine racer and first started skiing herself when she was just two years old. After relocating with her family to Klamath Falls, Oregon when she was 7 she began to race at Mount Bachelor, and in 2006 she was selected to join the U.S. Ski Team. Three years later Ross made her World Cup debut in December 2009, and in 2011 moved up to the World Cup team. The same years she represented her country at the 2011 World Championships, finishing the women’s downhill in tenth place.
Ross didn’t have to wait long to achieve her first World Cup podium, landing second place in a downhill at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany in 2013. Since then she has established herself as one of the world’s best alpine ski racers, but she has also found time to volunteer for several community projects including Winter 4 Kids, Fast and Female, Share Winter and Athletes for Hope.
