Lu Xiaojun is a widely renowned weightlifter on the international stage, competing for his country China. He was born in 1984 in Hubei, China to a family of farmers. When he was 13 years old his talent was noted and he attended a local sports school to be trained as a weightlifter. In 1999 he moved to join the provincial team. Xiaojun competes in the -81 kg category. His club is Tianjin and esteemed weightlifting coach Yu Jie coaches him.
Xiaojun was selected for the Chinese National Team in 2003. Xiaojun’s achievements internationally have been outstanding and he is an Olympic champion and five times World Champion. He competed in the -77 kg category until 2018 when the IWF re-organised the grouping he moved to the 81 kg classes. He won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the -77 kg class with a total of 379 kg.
He set a world record in his class with a snatch of 175 kg and a total of 379 kg.
In the 2016 Summer Olympics he set another world record in the snatch of 177 kg, achieving a silver medal in a close finish. In the World Championships he first won a gold in 2009 and in the following year he got silver, then gold again in 2011, 2013, 2018 and 2019. His achievements have been exceptional and he has set 12 world records and continues to improve.
