A native of Hokksund, Norway, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen competes in alpine ski racing on the World Cup circuit. He is a member of the Baerums SK sports club. Braathen was born in Brazil to a Norwegian father and a Brazilian mother. His name comes from his mixed heritage. Pinheiro is the Portuguese word for pine tree, and he was given this middle name out of respect to his mother as well as his Brazilian background.
In December of 2018, he competed in his first World Cup event, which took place in Val d’Isere. He finished in 26th place, which earned him his first points. In 2019, Braathen competed in the Junior World Championships and finished fourth and tenth overall. He then went on to win a silver medal in the super-G race and a bronze medal in the combined competition.
At the first race of the season, a giant slalom held in Solden in October of 2020, Braathen won for the first time. After finishing in 29th place after the first run of the competition at the Lauberhorn event in Wengen in 2022, he made the greatest jump to victory ever recorded, which enabled him to move up to first place after the second run and win the slalom for the first time. Braathen keeps up with his fans on Instagram @pinheiiiroo, where he boasts more than 110,000 followers.
