A gold medal and international champion in lead climbing competitions, Lucka Rakovec is a competitive rock climber from Slovenia. She made history in the 2019 IFSC World Championships by winning the lead climbing competition at just 18 years old.
Born on May 6, 2001 and hailing from Ljubljana, Rakovec first participated in the European Youth Cup in 2015. She placed third in her first tournament in Dornbirn, Austria, and has continued to dominate the sport since. Finishing on the podium several times in European Youth Cups, she has seen success across the bouldering, speed, and leading climbing events. In 2017, she made her senior level debut at the IFSC World Cup in Kranj, Slovenia. She absolutely dominated youth level competition in 2018, taking first place in both the European Youth Cup and the European Youth Championships and finishing second in the IFSC Youth World Championships in Moscow.
Rakovec participated exclusively in senior level competitions in 2019, seeing her greatest success in the bouldering and lead disciplines. She established herself as one of Slovenia’s best climbers in October, winning gold in the European Championship in Edinburg at just 18 years old. She then went on to finish fourth at the IFSC Combined Qualified in Toulouse, setting up a possible future appearance at the Olympics. A proud member of the Alpine Association of Slovenia, Rakovec is undoubtedly one of her sport’s brightest stars.
