American professional tennis player Madison Keys has won five WTA tournament titles and won the Cincinnati Open in 2019.
An avid Wimbledon viewer from a young age, Keys took up the sport when she was seven years old. She began playing at her local club, the Quad City Tennis Club, before her and her family moved to Florida when she was 10. The move allowed her to train at the Evert Tennis Academy and she began competing at junior events. She won the under 12 Junior Orange Bowl, and went on to play in eight ITF Pro Circuit events when she was aged just 15. Her professional career began with a WTA tour level win aged 14 and she had secured a place in the world top 50 by the time she was 18. The following year she won her first WTA senior title at the Eastbourne International and reached the third round of Wimbledon but had to retire from the competition due to injury. Keys came up against world No. 1 Serena Williams in the semifinals of the 2015 Australian Open and moved into the world top 10 in 2016 after a win at the Birmingham Classic.
After some time out of the sport with injury, Keys made a strong comeback when she reached the final of the 2017 US Open. Semifinal appearances at the 2018 French Open and US Open followed, and a win at the Cincinnati Open in 2019 reiterated her position as an experienced, seasoned player.
