Mark Ormrod is the author of award winning autobiography Man Down and an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker. Also a peak performance coach, the Royal Marines veteran and triple amputee turned his own personal tragedy into an incredible story of success and is a regular source of inspiration for his many followers across social media.
The Royal Marines Commando was out on a routine foot patrol in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan in the early hours of Christmas Eve 2007 when he tragically stood on and triggered an Improvised Explosive Device. Thanks to the quick actions of the men he was with and the skills of the Medical Emergency Response Team, Ormrod was airlifted to an emergency field hospital to try and safe his life. Three days later he woke in Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, UK with his right arm amputated above the elbow and both legs amputated above the knee.
The first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict from the UK, he was told by doctors he would likely spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair. At this lowest point, the inspirational Ormrod decided to use his setback as a springboard for reinvention and growth rather than withdrawing into a state of depression and anger.
Now a relentless fundraiser, motivational speak and bestselling author, he is an ambassador for the Royal Marines Association and a role model and mentor to other amputees. Ormrod has not used a wheel chair since June 2009 and has even performed stunts that many able bodied athletes would find challenging. This inspirational hero continues to help many others who have suffered setbacks and helps them to live their own life without limits.
