Mark Vientos, born December 11, 1999, in Norwalk, Connecticut, is an American professional baseball third baseman for the New York Mets. Vientos’ baseball career took off during his senior year of high school when he posted an impressive .417 batting average over 26 games. His standout performance earned him a selection by the Mets in the second round (59th overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft. Choosing to forgo a college baseball commitment to the University of Miami, Vientos signed with the Mets for $1.5 million.
Vientos began his professional journey with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Mets and was soon promoted to the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League. Across 51 games, he showcased his potential by hitting .262 with four home runs and 26 RBIs.
On September 10, 2022, Vientos was called up to the major leagues. He made his MLB debut the following night at Marlins Park, though he went hitless in five at-bats. His breakthrough came on September 15, 2022, when he recorded his first major-league hit, and later hit his first home run on September 24, 2022.
Vientos spent part of the 2024 season with Triple-A Syracuse but made a significant return to the Mets when called up to replace an injured player. He delivered a memorable performance against the St. Louis Cardinals, including a walk-off home run in the 11th inning. Despite being optioned back to Syracuse in late April, he was recalled to the majors on May 15, 2024, continuing to make an impact for the Mets.
