Inspirational dual-sport athlete Marquise Goodwin is an Olympian track and field competitor and an Footballer. Goodwin played for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL) as wide receiver and kick returner. He competed in the long jump at the London Olympics in 2012 and won silver at the 2015 Pan American Games. Although his speciality in track and field is the long jump, Goodwin has also been a top competitor in the 100 meters and 60 meters sprint and the triple jump.
Goodwin grew up in the small town of Lubbock, Texas and had a humble up-bringing in a single parent household with his mother. After moving to Dallas, Goodwin made the decision to leave home when he was just 14 to pursue his ambitions but ended up living rough on the streets. After a number of families reached out to help him through high school his potential was spotted in track and field and he began to compete for the USA Junior National Team.
After a difficult start in life Goodwin had persevered and his track career took off. He went on to win two Junior World Championship gold medals and silver at the World University Games in China. In 2012 he jumped 8.33m at trials to secure his place on the USA Olympic team for the London Olympics.
After a successful track and field career Goodwin was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2013 and signed a four-year contract. After a stint with San Francisco’s 49ers he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020.
Goodwin may have had a difficult start in life, but with success in two different sports he has proven that anyone can achieve their dreams.
