The amazing sportsman Mashu Baker is a judoka, who competes in the -90kg weight category. He is an Olympic Champion, an Asian Games Champion, and a World Masters Champion, as well as a 4x IJF Grand Slam Champion, and a IJF Grand Prix Champion.
Born to an American father and Japanese mother in Tokyo, Japan, Baker started judo at the age of seven. He began competing at cadet and junior level and by the time he was 20 he was competing in the -90kg weight category. In 2013 he took his first medal at the IJF Grand Slam in Tokyo, winning Gold. The following year he added two IJF Grand Slam Bronzes with wins in Paris and Tokyo. In 2015 he took three IJF Grand Slam Golds, as well as a World Championships Bronze.
Baker became Japan’s Olympic Champion when he took Gold at Rio 2016, while earlier that year he had added a World Master Gold to his achievements. In 2018 he took a Mixed team Gold and an individual Bronze at the Asian Games, as well as a Silver from the IJF Grand Slam. In 2019 he took his first IJF Grand Prix medals winning Gold in Montreal and Bronze in Tashkent.
