Basketball ace Matthew Thomas is a shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball League (NBA). An outstanding player throughout high school, he is a top class shooter who has shown what he can do from downtown since his time playing for Iowa State College. Thomas had a difficult journey to the NBA after losing his father to suicide when he was 11, followed by the tragic death of his second father by drowning when he was 17. He nearly lost his love for the game when he was 20 years old, but Thomas remained unbroken and has since fulfilled his dream of playing in the NBA. After a stint playing for the Toronto Rapters – where he was ruthlessly efficient in shooting from the corners on three-pointers – he has already made an impact for the Chicago Bulls since signing with the NBA giants in September 2021.
Born in Decatur, Illinois, Thomas grew up in Onalaska, Wisconsin. A standout basketball player at Onalaska High School and named first-team all-state by the Associated Press, he was named one of the best shooters in the class of 2013. After choosing Iowa State over several colleges, he played for the Iowa State Cyclones before beginning his professional career in Europe with a two year deal with Liga ACB’s Valencia in Spain.
Thomas made his NBA debut on October 26th 2019 after signing with the Toronto Raptors. His journey to the NBA has been more difficult than for many other players, but with several impressive performances under his belt already for the Chicago Bulls, his strength of character and resilience continue to shine through.
