Prior to her breakthrough, Tierney honed her craft in various stage plays, including ‘Baby with the Bathwater’ and ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.’ After relocating to the West Coast in the late 1980s, she secured episodic appearances in shows like ‘Growing Pains,’ ‘Family Ties,’ and ‘Law & Order.’ Her progression in film began with roles in ‘The Linguini Incident’ (1991) and a leading role in ‘Dead Women in Lingerie’ (1991), followed by appearances in comedies and thrillers such as ‘Primal Fear’ (1996), ‘Liar Liar’ (1997), ‘Primary Colors’ (1998), and ‘Instinct’ (1999).
