About

Max La Manna was born on April 18, 1989. His passion for cooking began as a teenager, working in his father’s restaurants in Connecticut. This early exposure fostered an interest that would shape his future career. Later, he pursued a modeling career in New York City and Los Angeles, simultaneously working night shifts in restaurants to maintain his connection to the culinary world. At the age of 25, he made brief appearances on two episodes of the television show “Days of Our Lives.” By 2017, La Manna’s focus shifted significantly towards veganism and promoting a zero-waste lifestyle, a turning point that defined his public persona and culinary philosophy.

As a self-taught chef, Max La Manna has become a prominent advocate for affordable and low-waste cooking practices. He has been recognized for bridging the gap between vegan food and waste-free methods, ultimately reducing his personal food waste to almost zero. His recipes and insights have gained widespread attention, appearing in reputable publications such as The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Vice, Vogue, and on the BBC. His work has reinforced the idea that sustainable eating can be both practical and delicious for everyone.

La Manna’s efforts in promoting sustainable eating have resulted in significant accolades. His 2019 cookbook, “More Plants Less Waste,” was awarded “Most Sustainable Cookbook” at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2020. His 2023 cookbook, “You Can Cook This!,” further solidified his reputation, being named “World’s Best Vegan Cookbook” at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. VegNews also recognized him as one of the “37 Creative Chefs Crafting the Future of Vegan Food” in 2023, and Food & Wine included “You Can Cook This!” in their “20 Best Vegan Cookbooks for Every Type of Meal” in 2024. Although he initially advocated for zero-waste, La Manna has publicly stated that zero-waste is impossible and now identifies as promoting a low-waste approach, particularly in the kitchen. He married English media personality Venetia Falconer in November 2019.
