Melissa Macedo is an actor and singer, most known for being part of the iconic band Macedo, with her twin sister Michelle. The band are inspired by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell and Billie Holiday, with Macedo’s sister being involved in the lyrics whilst Macado herself is responsible for the melodies and vocals. The band have released two EPs, with Flags & Boxes doing astoundedly well commercially – with Macedo featuring in a Pantene Pro-V commercial which also features three of the tracks from the album.
Macedo has also had an expansive acting career, starring in Netflix’s Girlboss, Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk and Blood Heist – a feature film which sees Macedo star alongside James Franco, the legendary Oscar-nominee of 127 Hours fame. Girlboss was equally as successful, produced by Charlize Theron and inspired by Sophia Amoruso’s best-selling book following the rise of the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal.
Macedo has such a passion for film, theatre and tv that along with her twin sister founded the theatre company World Kin Ensemble. World Kin Ensemble was created to challenge gender stereotypes and the power dynamics of the theatre industry, aiming to give a voice to those unheard through art and theatre. The ensemble has recently produced a poignant docudrama called Dirty Talk, which stars Macedo, about women, men and the silence between them through real life interviews with students and professors, collaborating with the creator Shaheen Vaaz.
