Melissa Macedo was born in Pasadena, California, and developed an early interest in music, starting piano lessons at age three. She attended Barnard College, Columbia University, in New York City, where she earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Gender Studies and Theatre. Her professional career spans both acting and music.

As a musician, Melissa is one half of the indie pop duo Macedo, formed with her twin sister Michelle. The duo released their debut album, “Flags & Boxes,” in 2011, followed by the EP “Paper Doll” in 2014, and the album “Ghost Town” in 2017. Their music, characterized by vocal harmonies and diverse instrumentation, has garnered national radio play and positive critical reception, including features in Vogue India and WNYC’s Soundcheck. In 2020, Macedo signed with Pasadena Records, releasing “Stronger Now” which reached No. 42 on the Top 100 Pop Charts and gained attention on SiriusXM’s ‘The Pulse.’

In her acting career, Melissa has appeared in various television and film projects. Her notable roles include Stacie in the TV series “Girlboss” (2017), Joelle in “Blood Heist” (2017), Mia in “Every Time I Die” (2019), and Elvira ‘Verá’ Mendoza in “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” (2022). Furthering her commitment to the arts, Melissa co-founded the theatre company World Kin Ensemble, dedicated to challenging gender stereotypes in theatre and giving a voice to underrepresented narratives.
