Welsh footballing icon – Mickey Thomas, is a Football League Third Division Champion with Wrexham and Second Division Champion with Chelsea. During his time at Stoke, he also won Player of the Year for the club. The Welshman played for a string of top sides in England, such as Manchester United, Everton, Brighton & Hove Albion, Stoke City, Chelsea, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County, Shrewsbury Town and Leeds United. The tricky winger also made 51 appearances and scored four goals for the Welsh National Team.
Thomas’ most famous stint was at European mega club Manchester United. Playing at the top of his game, the winger spent three enjoyable seasons at Old Trafford, appearing an impressive 110 times and scoring 15 goals for the Red Devils. He also collected an FA Cup runners-up medal in the thrilling 1979 final during his time at United. Another notable spell would be for then promotion chasing side Chelsea. In 1984, Thomas signed for the Blues and made an immediate positive impact, scoring twice on his debut and helping the London side to become Second Division champions in the 1983–84 campaign.
After his decorated and successful career in football, Thomas has more recently been heard providing insight on all Manchester United matches on “Total Football” on Key 103 and Piccadilly Magic 1152. He has also done work as an after dinner speaker, showing that Thomas’ captivating personality is always in demand.
