The fabulous Miriam Margolyes is one of the most recognisable character actresses in the world, who is best known for playing Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, as well as for her BAFTA Award-winning turn in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence. She was awarded an OBE in the 2002 Queen’s New Years Honours List for her services to drama. Outside of acting, she is an active supporter of charities for disabled people and their carers. And, yes, she provided the sexy voice for that bunny in the Cadbury’s Caramel adverts!
Born in Oxford, she became a naturalised Australian citizen in 2013. Her first appearance on TV was as a contestant for Newnham College, Cambridge on the quiz show University Challenge in 1963. She developed a taste for acting while at University, and made her debut in the TV series, Theatre 625, in 1965. She has since gone on to appear in (as well as provide the voice for) countless TV shows, including Dixon of Dock Green, Angels, Tales of the Unexpected, BlackAdder, A Little Princess, Doc Martin, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and The Windsors. In 2016 she joined an all star cast in the BBC’s The Real Marigold Hotel, and the sequel The Real Marigold Hotel on Tour. Her prolific movie works include her 1969 debut, A Nice Girl Like Me, as well as Yentl, Little Shop of Horrors, Babe, Happy Feet, End of Days, Ladies in Lavender, The Guilt Trip, and H is for Happiness. She is also an established stage actress in London and on Broadway, as well as a regular voice artist on radio, for commercials and documentaries, in animated films and TV shows, and for audio books.
