The retired American volleyball player Misty May-Treaner is a three-time Olympic gold medallist known as the most successful female player in history.
Growing up in California, May-Treaner began her volleyball career when she played for Long Beach State from 1995-99. She then went on to play as part of her school’s team in the NCAA championships during which she was named most valuable player of the tournament. Following this, May-Treaner went on to play professionally as a two-person team alongside her teammate Kerri Walsh, with whom they won 112 straight matches during 2007-08. Renowned as the most dominant volleyball team of their time, May-Treaner and Walsh went on to become Olympic gold medallists at the 2004 summer Olympics in Athens and again during 2008 in Beijing.
Throughout their career, May-Treaner and Walsh were named the AVP Team of the Year from 2003-07. Arguably one of America’s greatest female athletes, May-Treaner has gone on to be named as part several halls of fame and in both 2004 and 2006, she was named by the Women’s Sports Foundation as Sportswoman of the Year. Since her retirement, May-Treaner has gone on to make numerous television appearances on popular shows including The Late Show with David Letterman, CSI: Miami and the Disney Series, Wizards of Waverly Place. She also competed in series seven of Dancing with the stars and appeared on Hell’s Kitchen as a table guest.
