Mitch Creek is an Australian pro basketball player who has played for major teams in his homeland, won gold for his country in international tournaments, and played in leagues around the world, including the biggest one of all—the NBA. In Australia’s NBL, he is perhaps best known for the eight years he spent playing for the Adelaide 36ers. With them, he won a premiership title and reached two grand finals. He also achieved a host of accolades including various MVP awards and two All-NBL Second Team awards. In 2019, he became the first major signing of a brand new club, the South East Melbourne Phoenix, who were entering the NBL for their debut season. He still plays for them today.
Creek was born in Victoria in 1992. He was on his way to basketball stardom from an early age, being inducted into his high school’s hall of fame. After impressing with the state team at U-18 level, he was called up to the Australian U-19 training camp and also spent time at the world-famous Nike All-Asia Camp in China. By 2010, he had led the Victoria team to National Championship victory, made a winning debut for the Australian U-19s, and been offered a scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sports. Before long, he’d been snapped up by the Adeleide 36ers.
In 2018, in between leaving the 36ers and joining the Phoenix, Creek spent a few months in America playing in the NBA. He made several appearances for the Brooklyn Nets and the Minnesota Timberwolves, holding his own in the world’s premier basketball league. Earlier that year, he’d also spent some time in Europe playing for BG Gottingen in the German Basketball Bundesliga.
