About

Sophie Rose Hinchliffe, born Sophie Barker on February 16, 1990, in Basildon, Essex, initially worked as a hairdresser. She developed coping mechanisms for anxiety, finding that cleaning provided a sense of calm and control. This personal approach to home care eventually laid the foundation for her public persona. In March 2018, Hinchliffe launched her Instagram account, “mrshinchhome,” with the original intention of documenting the decoration of her house. Her candid sharing of cleaning tips and organizational strategies quickly resonated with a broad audience, leading to rapid growth in her online following.

Her Instagram account quickly gained traction, accumulating two million followers within two years, whom she affectionately calls “Hinchers,” supported by the hashtag #HinchArmy. By June 2019, her follower count reached 2.5 million, and by October 2020, it exceeded 3.8 million. Her content features stories and 15-second videos showcasing her cleaning routines and home organization methods. Her influence extended beyond social media into publishing. In April 2019, her first book, “Hinch Yourself Happy,” sold 160,302 copies in three days, becoming the second highest-selling non-fiction book in the UK at that time. Her subsequent books, “The Activity Journal” and “The Little Book of Lists,” both achieved number one bestseller status on The Sunday Times Bestseller List in 2019 and April 2020, respectively. Her memoir, “This Is Me,” also became a number one bestseller in October 2020, solidifying her presence in the literary world.

Hinchliffe’s career further diversified with media appearances, including features on ‘This Morning’ for her cleaning tips and the launch of her podcast, ‘All the Best,’ which was recognized by The Guardian in March 2021 as ‘podcast of the week.’ She has also engaged in various product promotions, which on occasion led to investigations by the Advertising Standards Authority for insufficient disclosure of paid advertisements. In March 2021, GoCompare listed her as the highest-paid ‘homefluencer’ in the UK and second highest worldwide. In 2023, she released a children’s book, “Welcome to Hinch Farm,” addressing children’s anxiety about moving. Hinchliffe resides in Maldon with her husband, Jamie, their three sons, Ronnie, Lennie, and Vinnie, and their pets. Both Sophie and her son Ronnie have been diagnosed with autism.
