Captain of the West Indies limited overs cricket team, Nicholas Pooran is a cricketer from Trinidad and Tobago. He plays for Trinidad and Tobago in West Indian domestic matches. In September 2016, Pooran played his first game for the West Indies. In November 2018, he was chosen to go to India with the West Indies team. In the third T20I match, he scored 53 runs in just 25 balls to get his first T20I half-century. In February 2019, he was named to the West Indies’ One Day International (ODI) team for their series against England.
Pooran was put on the West Indies team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He got his first century in ODIs in July, in a game against Sri Lanka. At the end of the tournament, he led the West Indies in runs scored with 367 in nine games. The International Cricket Council named Pooran the team’s rising star after the World Cup. Cricket West Indies gave him a central contract for the first time in July 2019. Later, Pooran became vice-captain for the West Indies in T20 international cricket.
In July 2021, Pooran was chosen as the vice captain for the West Indies’ home series against Australia. Kieran Pollard was unable to play in the first T20I, so Pooran captained the West Indies for the first time. In the first T20I match, he led his team to an amazing 18-run win over Australia. Pooran was named vice captain of the West Indies team for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In May 2022, he was named captain of the West Indies national cricket team for games that have limited overs.
