Olivia Smith, an Emmy Award-winning journalist and AI specialist, received her first National Emmy Award in 2016 for the documentary ‘Dead Horse Bay: New York’s Hidden Treasure Trove of Trash.’ Smith developed her expertise with a Master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Columbia University in 2012, earning honors for her reporting, and had previously graduated from New York University in 2011. During her graduate studies, she interned at CNN and 60 Minutes, gaining early exposure to major news operations, and subsequently received a fellowship to rotate through CNN’s New York bureau. In 2012, she was also awarded a prestigious Fulbright grant, enabling her to explore media landscapes in Berlin. Her professional trajectory began as a television correspondent at NY1 in 2012, followed by a role at Al Jazeera America.

She also founded Get Savvy with Social, a media, tech, and lifestyle company and blog. In 2023, she authored the children’s book series ‘Dog Detectives Jacob and Bricks’ and is a published poet. Most recently in 2024, Smith transitioned to Meta, where she joined the GenAI Content Engineering team, leveraging her extensive expertise at the intersection of media and artificial intelligence. Further solidifying her leadership in the industry, she was selected for Poynter’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media in 2024.
