Paolo Sorrentino is one of the most celebrated Italian filmmakers and screenwriters of our time. Born in Naples, Italy, on May 31, 1970, Sorrentino was inspired by the works of Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Luchino Visconti, which prompted him to pursue a career in cinema.

Sorrentino’s filmmaking career began in 1998 with the release of his debut feature film, “One Man Up,” a tragicomic drama that explored the theme of fame and its consequences. He gained wider recognition in 2004 with “The Consequences of Love,” a gripping thriller that won numerous international awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Over the years, Sorrentino has released a string of critically acclaimed films, including “Il Divo,” “This Must Be the Place,” and “Youth,” which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. His most notable work, however, would be the television series “The Young Pope” (2016) and “The New Pope” (2019), both of which garnered widespread critical acclaim for their provocative and daring storytelling.
