Australian Test cricket captain Pat Cummins is widely regarded as one of the best bowlers in the world. In limited-overs cricket, he also is the vice-captain of the Australian side. Cummins is a hard-hitting right-handed batsman and a fast bowler. He represents New South Wales in Australia. Cummins was ranked number one in the world in the ICC test bowling rankings in May 2022.
Cummins made his Test debut in 2011 at the age of 18. Injury caused him to stop playing international cricket in 2015, and Test cricket in 2017. following his return, Cummins won the Allan Border Medal for best Australian cricketer of the year and was named the ICC Test cricketer of the year for the 2019 season. Cummins took 38 wickets in 37 Indian Premier League matches from 2014 to 2021. He appeared in seven IPL 2021 matches, taking nine wickets and scoring 93 runs. Cummins tied the IPL’s fastest half-century record in April 2022, making 50 runs in 14 balls against the Mumbai Indians. This is a record he shares with KL Rahul.
Cummins was named the 47th captain of the Australian men’s test cricket team on November 26, 2021, following Tim Paine’s resignation. He became the first fast bowler in history to be named full-time Australian captain. During his debut test as captain in the 2021–22 Ashes series, he took seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings, a first for an Australian seam bowling captain. With 21 wickets in four matches, Cummins was the leading wicket-taker for the third straight Ashes series. Australia defeated England 4–0 under his captaincy.
